The Daily Photo family is Typical Breakfast.
Daily Photo guidelines:
"Typical breakfast"- not just the food you eat personally, but it could be in a restaurant or grocery store, the "occasion" of breakfast (the people eating it, an interesting location where people eat breakfast) - ie think creatively about it.
I picked the kolache. Since living here for 10 years, I have realized that not everyone knows what a kolache is. It is a wonderful sausage and cheese (or ham and cheese) wrapped in roll (or for fancy Texans, a croissant). The are quite small so breakfast easily is 2 or 3. The kids love them. The first shot is my 7 year old with his kolaches before church. And I had to add the 2nd photo (sorry-I've been off the computer for 10 days-in Daily Photo withdrawal) to show the typical donut/kolache shop. They are open on every corner. 6am to noon every day. When we're running late for school, I pile the boys in the car, swing by the kolache shop for a dozen and throw them in the back of the car. They're usually gone by the time we get to the drop-off line.

Your kolache is different than the ones I ate as a kid (and even now); in the Midwest it's a pastry filled with apricots, or prunes, or poppyseed. Regional differences!
That's quite a different kolache from the one I grew up eating as a Czech-American. But I bet I'd like it just as well.
I had never heard of this, even though I had lived in the US for over a decade! How is it pronounced?
We have something similar to kolache here in Asia too.
But it's just called a sausage buns. Many modern bakeries now have designer breads too!
Happy Theme Day
I have to admit, I have not triedd one of these. Something to add to my list.
Ham and cheese rolls or croissants or bacon and egg rolls are reasonably popular here too.
I hate that pappy type bread though, so it wouldn't be my idea of breakfast. To each his own!
What a GREAT post! I learned something new, and got a real kick out of hearing about it. Kudos!

I didn't know that kolaches were popular in Texas. The bun looks really big (but I guess it is TX)!

New to me! Interesting name.
Your photo makes it look good enough to eat. I could.

So now I am introduced to kolache. Looks good.
This would be very exciting for my 9 year old, we don't have that up here in the Northwest.

So, it's a croissant from Texas, then? quite different from the croissant I grew up with :) Looks very tasty!
I grew up in Texas and have never heard of a "kolache" ... I had expected to be surprised by the food from some exotic location and instead Cypress Texas did the trick.
